This is the twelfth part of my Reflection Series – a self-reflection of my year teaching in the UK.
What was the most valuable thing you learned this year?
I keep coming back to this same point, so I guess it’s the crux of my reflection.
The most valuable thing I learned this year was to stand up for myself and make myself heard. I won’t go into detail again, as I feel like I’ve done that so much in previous posts, but I cannot emphasise enough how important of a learning curve that has been for me.
We think that school is all about the students learning, but there is a true part of it that focuses on us teachers learning too. We learn about new content, different pedagogies, professional relationships, and our own selves as practitioners. It’s part of what I love about this job – I get to keep learning alongside my students!
You can read more, if you haven’t already done so, in previous posts from the End of Year Reflection Series.
